🙋Question # 1 -
For some reason, my child's name is not mentioned on his birth certificate and I am not sure if they will accept it!?
👉Expert Answer -
Well, the straight answer is Yes, they will accept it. Usually at birth baby's name is not finalized, so birth certificate may have as "baby" of "mother’s name". Such certificates are acceptable for all government, and official purposes, you may be asked to submit an affidavit along with it, that's all (may vary a little from school to school).
👍What is the best way out?
My personal advice would be that we still have some time to admissions, so get the name added in the birth certificate and we can apply you can apply online or offline at office.
Go to your Nigam or Municipal Corporation office and request for birth correction form and submit it as per the process. You can also apply online, visit their website and submit your application for name correction/change. After due verification the name will be added and you can download certificate as well.

🙋Question #2 -
How many schools should I apply? 5, 10, 15, or as many as I can get...?
👉Expert Answer -
I would say, apply to as many as you can, at least in your neighborhood. Only problem is that your kid will score quite similar points in all nearby schools (mostly from distance criteria), followed by other common criteria like girl child, alumni etc so your kid stands equal chances of either getting shortlisted, or rejected (so 50/50), but competition for seats makes it roughly 5% of chances of getting selected in any near by school.
You might as well want to apply to schools little further from your house, that will increase your chances a bit, but if those schools have distance criteria based on radial distance, or road-distance then it would not be as fruitful.

- Apply to all nearby schools (within 5-6kms radius at least), Trust me, if you can get admission to nearest school, your kid will thank you for that and it would also make it easy for you as parents.
- Apply to selected schools beyond that distance, the one that you like, and also stand good chance of getting selected on other points mentioned by that school.

🙋Question #3 -
We moved to Delhi in recent years, so our Aadhaar and Passport have our old address on it, so what options we have? Is rent agreement is acceptable as an address proof for nursery admissions?
👉Expert Answer -
The rent agreement is treated as address proof in most of the establishments, and it "should be" acceptable as legal address proof, BUT, please be cautioned as DOE has shared list of documents that can be considered as address proof, but that's not exhaustive enough.
As per DOE order dated 26th November 2018, list of indicative documents which can be considered as proof of residence of parents/child are as below -

👍What is the best way out?
- First of all, DOE order says the documents in above list are just "indicative", so you need to ensure you get proper rent agreement (a proper one!)
- Get an affidavit created for address proof, just as additional support document
- You can get other supportive documents also handy too, e.g. bank certificate etc
- Bytheway, you can get the address changed in your aadhaar card online, it takes just a few days (3-7 working days), there are more documents that are accepted by UIDAI so that is also one good way to be ready before admission process starts

🙋Question # 4
Admission process starts on 15th Dec, how can I find out and calculate how many points my kid will have for different schools?
👉Expert Answer -
It is important that parents know how to calculate points for each school, and more importantly, what is the point system for each school in the neighborhood.
- As per DOE order, all schools are expected to upload criteria and points on DOE website by 14th December 2018, but the trends from past years suggest that not all schools do that in time.
- Also know that all schools are expected to publish criteria and points at school notice board, but the challenge is that you will have to visit school to find that out
