Interation 'Nautanki' at Amity International Saket!

There goes another school-parent interaction at one of the best (on paper they might be but after our recent visit I really doubt if they are close to what they say) South Delhi schools. This school that claims to follow the belief “Vidya Dadate Vinayam- we did not see any signs of "Humanity". Here is the up close and personal experience that we (as parents of 4 year old kid) will never forget in our lives.

1) Our first interaction was with two 'fools' (read 'Amity' Document Verification Officers) who did not even know the difference between a graduation degree and post-graduation one. Myself and my wife had to explain them the difference so that they could mark it properly on the verification form. As we were trying to explain it to them, they were busy arguing between themselves all the time at every stage.
Once the verification part was over they asked us to wait for interaction call.
2) They handed over us a good 6 page paper to fill that had descriptive, objective, multiple choice and questions that hardly make any sense in this admission scenario (e.g. Complete details of Paternal Grandparents, Maternal Grandparents, by complete I mean contact no, education, designation, address and what not...). It took us 45 minutes to complete that form and we thought it is worth spending time on it as probably they would refer to this form during interaction.
3) It was over 2 hours since we landed inAmity land but we were nowhere on that interaction list, after repeated reminders they noticed that verification officer had misplaced the form and so they asked us to wait for 'some more' time, so we did as we had no other option at hand.
4) Finally the wait was over and we got the call and then the 'Nautanki' started, as we entered the room two well dressed ladies were waiting inside and it was a rapid fire questions round (very much standard ones as you can guess), and with in 3 (yes! three!) minutes we were shown the door. Thank You! - she said.

I am not calling this interaction as Nautanki, because of the time duration, or type of questions they asked but the 'quality' of the interaction. One of those ladies was busy with her own stuff (flipping thru some files, papers etc) and the one who was firing questions was really not listening to us.

That's the real problem, why were we parents are being humiliated? Why are we made to stand in the queues, wait at schools for these silly interactions? Sucs!

We also asked couple of other parents and the response was the same - 'Nautanki'!

Dear Spyder

It is really unfortunate that you had to go through this interview (nautanki) ordeal.

But as has become my habit i have a question to ask..."why do schools need to interview parents?"

Tell me if some kids parents are not smart enough to handle an interview is it the fault of the 3 year old and he should not be allowed admission in a school for this..

What do you say?

After all this stuff, I really don't see any reason what-so-ever to send my little princess to school - as it is parents are expected to teach their children before admission (as per the earlier norm in delhi & from what I've read it is still followed in Noida as well) & after admssion by way of hometasks. Wher is the need for schools at all - wher do they fit in, if the schools themselves hardly have any civic sense / social responsibility, what wil they teach our children.

Hey we have filled the form but haven't heard from Amity yet... What si their process for informing for interaction .. shld we go and check from the school.. site does not give any information.

You get the interaction date on the same day, time when you submit the form at Amity. Basically they give you a receipt back from the last page of the form with date, time slot.

Recheck all the papers that you got from Amity after submission of the form. I think you need to hurry as the last date may already be over or approaching....

all the best.....and bytheway need not to worry to much about interaction, presence is important not the interaction- thats all silly stuff.

Dear Spyder,

I also came to know that around 80 parents are being called everyday to Amity for interactions. And this process started few days back and will go on till 2nd or 3rd Feb. I wonder what is their selection criteria..how promptly the parents answer or how smart they look to particpate in this NAutanki. The other day I dropped by at Amity to verify something regarding the interaction , and I saw couples with their kids, the very ypung ones, the aayas and the lunch boxes and what all...poora picnic spot i guess.

More on Amity - We went for the interaction today. Spent 1 hour sitting idle in one room. Then we were shifted to another room and kept waiting for a good 30 mins before interaction started. 1 lady at the other side and she started firing questions - Why this school? Why is your child special? Do you stay in nuclear/joint family etc? all this while verifying our documents. In 3 mins we were shown the door with no update given whatsover on next steps. Another school where my 4+ yr daughter will not make it. sigh!!!

I would agree with your comments as I also had faced that few days back. Ideally the doc verifiers doesnt have any right to ask such questions like 'family type', 'why this school' etc. but seems like they enjoy asking these questions to poor parents.

No one is really interested, no wonder if Mr Lovely or DOE director are realyl bothered about what schools are doing, rather they are collecting some 'reports' from schools that are shelved to add to the history somewhere in the corner in this govt. office.

I am working on some action plan and I would like help from all people out there in order to execute that. I will soon be publishing it on this blog and we will all consolidate our inputs on the same.

Dear Parents

i think its time for us to stand up and be counted, i bet the DOE doesnt know the meaning of the phrase "Securing a child's future".

Sheila aunty and Lovely chacha have bigger things to worry about after all kids are after all kids.

Kids do not vote and wont do so for a very long time so our dear politicians arent really intersted in this...aaah POLITICS or should i say POLY-TICKS.

I recently on 18th Sep 09) took my daughter to Father Agnel for child's interaction, poor girl unable to bear the heat(we stood outside the school gate for 30 minutes for as a punishment for reaching early, and then in the que to get the token for her for about 20 minutes again in scorching sun), started crying by the time we got the token and headed towards the auditorium, when her turn came she was totally exhausted and again started crying, so I was allowed to take her to for the interaction, to my surprise the lady who took the interaction had no interest in listening to what the little kid was saying, she would just pop a question and either talk to the other teacher around or look somewhere else. her attitude was same in all the questions, I asked the teacher if she is listening to the child, to which she answers "you child is barely audible", if that was the situation why didnt she even once tell the child to speak loudly??? I really feel the interaction stuff is all but a staged drama and the so called selectors do not even try to access the child capability. If as a parent we are supposed to teach them all colours, shapes, Alphabets, counting, opposites, rhymes, names of animals, fruits, vegetables, birds, flowers ...and the list goes on, before admitting the child in nursery, what will these people teach the kid.
