The truth behind nursery admissions in Delhi!

The story is known to everyone, parents have cried themselves hoarse over the issue, we have had everything from media to public participation over the Nursery Admission fiasco. The problem began when the DOE flouted vague guidelines regarding nursery admissions on 24th November 2007 (Order No. F/DE/15/1031/ACT/2007/7002 later revised in Dec 2007) which led to the rampant rule flouting by schools across Delhi. Since the guidelines were not very clear the schools got a chance to play with the guidelines and started there own modifications (read fiddling around with the rules). A number of them have been exposed here on nurseryadmissionsdelhi.blogspot.com; but it hasn’t been enough to move anybody to take a step in the interest of the tiny tots (who we all know are the future of the nation). The government’s reaction has been limited to the one off comment (Lovely proudly declaring that every student would get admission) where as the media has pitched in with a few articles here and another news story there (no blaming the media since the future of India is not a TRP or readership booster). The actual problem is that no body cares about the real problem; on a poll conducted here (http://nurseryadmissionsdelhi.blogspot.com/) we asked the people “How many schools have you applied for?” we got shocking results:

You might ask what’s the relevance of my talking about this poll here; well for one it goes on to show the level of desperation among parents ( to the Delhi government – you are losing serious votes here). Now the question “who is listening to our plea?” the DOE is silent, the media doesn’t see a TRP cow in nursery admissions, the schools have become like Reliance Power IPO (oversubscribed) and the sad truth is nobody cares.

It’s our sincere plea to the government of Delhi and the media to please take note (a little bit of action would also come in handy).

Now the latest in the series of exposes about the schools and there football with DOE guidelines:

“SHRI RAM SCHOOL FARCE – As seen and reported by a harried parent”

Imagine as if this is your profile:
1) You are an Engineer, IIM Graduate with an excellent academic record
2) Your spouse has a profile similar to yours
3) You have represented India abroad on multiple occasions
3) You have won several National Level debates/contests/awards like “Technical Paper Contest, National Quiz, International Scholarship” etc.
4) You have certain 40 points (as per admissions criterion detailed out on admission form and school website)

Now, I think you would agree with me that you both can easily score at least 15 points in the interaction (some fellow parents like to call it GD, 'Cattle' Fair and so on) that was held at Sri Ram Vatika a few days back.

So in total you have good 55 points in Sri Ram School and the cut-off is 55 points (54 for the waiting list), but you are no where on that list?

What do you think they should do now? Does that selection criterion really make any sense to anyone out there?

We are opening a new poll today to help understand this problem, please give him the score that you think he would have scored looking at his profile (consider that he has good academic, extra-curricular record).

I agree that nobody is listening, in this world full of selfish people no body cares for the right cause.

Saddens me to see inaction.

Who is "nobody" spyder? It's us who can make some difference felt .. the fight has to go on for a right cause .. I'm lucky enough .. my kid got admitted today w/o any unfair means .. it gives me more courage to fight against any kind of unfairness or injustice .. I'm not going to leave Schools which demand donation for admission (e.g. St. Mary or Modern or Ryan) or schools which wants to know about parents' income in application form (e.g. Lalbahadur Shastri, Bhatnagar International/convent of Rani Jhansi).

Despite Living close to the School and being at the Pinnacle of our respective feilds (academically)we were not invited for interaction!!
I guess we could have score close to 55 pts! Oh my...

As you just said "we were not invited for interaction"...what does that mean? Everyone was given interaction date at Sri Ram Vatika. Which school are you talking about?

and this is for the second comment: Spyedr Zero is not Spyder - thats some one else :-)

Even I was not invited for interaction after securing 45 points on the other criteria. I kept on checking my e-mail till 10:00 p.m. on 11.1.2008 as mentioned on the school website. Next day when I called them up, they said that the mail got bounced so you please come immediately for 11:00 - 12:00 slot. (I got the form submission acknowledgement on the same ID). After reaching there I found that there were many such parents who did not get an e-mail. I fail to understand why did they send e-mails to all the parents, whereas they could have easily put up the interaction schedule on the school website. The situation was very chaotic. There was no list of parents. They were not able to dig out the application forms. Then during the interaction they asked the same question 'why Shri Ram'and suddenly we realised that the so called interaction was over. Despite being a university topper and doing quite well professionally, I am shocked that I could not even score 9 points in the interaction???

To Anonymous

Dear Anonymous no offence meant..(but the very reason that you and me are both not coming out in the open and speaking) goes onto prove the point that no body is ready to take it on himself/herself.

The problem is everybody is talking about this year where as we all know that this problem would surface again next year.

People are exposing schools (Hats off to you the original spyder ) which is brilliant but has anybody proposed a solution to the whole thing.

The rules are jsyut one aprt of the issue even the schools deviation from them is not the concern THE MAJOR CAUSE OF WORRY IS THAT NOBODY IS TALKING ABOUIT IMPROVING THE INFRASTRUCTURE...OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM IS ALREADY PLAGUED BY A NUMBER OF PROBLEMS
(READ RESERVATION)......wE NEED TO DO SOMETHING AND DO IT FAST...AFTER ALL ITS THE COUN TRY WHICH IS LOSING OUT
(TO THE GOVERNMENT -yOU ARE AGAIN LOSING OUT SERIOUS VOTES HERE)..

i HAVE A QUESTION .."HOW MANY OF US ARE READY TO COME OUT IN THE OPEN AND DISCUSS IT?"

(THIS LAST COMMENT IS NOT APPLICABLE TO PEOPLE LIKE THE OWNERS OF NURESRYADMISSIONS.COM)

AND YES IA M NOT SPYDER...I AM SPYEDR ZERO..

LETS STAND UP

to "SPYEDR ZERO"...! You have raised very valid point and questions here. I think we really need to stand up and come forward but the problem here is that no parent would want that their such action "coming out in public", be noticed by any school and their kid's admission gets affected by this.

let's not blame to any site/blog here, and lets focus on the real problem.

thanks for great idea though....let me think over this.

nursery (m)admissions

Dear all parents like me
I did my PhD (N.SCIENCE) from JMI, New Delhi last year. Fortunately, I had got fellowship during my PhD tenure from the GOVT. I am likely to work on another fellowship from april this year. My husband is an accountant with a pvt. Firm. My eldest child is 4+. By God’s will he is a “boy child “ of “not-single-parents”, with no special needs (by God’s grace), he does not fulfill sibling criteria being the eldest, again by god’s will. He does not fulfill the alumni criteria, may be due to god’s and his grand parents’ will. We are between 5-8 km in the 12 schools that we applied. But his name does not appear in any of the schools. We have only one earning member in the family bcoz I am myself a student now. No doubt, I have research publications at both national and international level. I had strong dreams about my future to serve myself, my institution , my country with my research work. BUT SINCE THIS (M)ADMISSION PROCESS HAS STARTED LEAVE ASIDE MY STUDIES I CANNOT CONCENTRATE AT EVEN MY HOUSEHOLD CHORES , BE IT COOKING OR WASHING OR ANYTHING ELSE and EVEN SLEEPING. AND POOR kids bear the brunt surviving on ommelletes and bread butter or on plain rice dal, khichris.
I do not see anything in future both for me and my son…..alas!.
And some schools they do not even take the phone calls properly. Some refuse that there won’t be any second list.
And, about Cambridge primary school, new friends colony, they didn’t even deign to display the last list of submission of forms. When we asked the receptionist that they had not informed about the last date on the notice board or in their newspaper advertisement, the madam said-“jee, yeh to apko khud poochhna chahiye tha, ye koi hamari jimmedaeri thodi hai…? And, their newspaper advertisement described about the “plushness”of school, about the age limit but they could not inform about the last date in this ad.
When we politely said that we thought that you were going by the govt. directions and the last date by govt. rules is between 1st jan –7th jan’08, she said ji yahan govt. ka kuch nahin chalta.
Can u imagine…?

LET’S COME TOGETHER, TAB HI KUCHCH HO SAKTA HAI…!
A PARENT LIKE U ALL
