Nursery Admissions Gurgaon 2018-2019 - Update

Parents in Gurgaon are in a fix over the lack of clarity on admissions to nursery classes, with the new academic session about to start. Parents have claimed that like every year, this year too, schools have decided to start the nursery admission procedure on different dates. According to parents, unlike Delhi, the absence of a regulatory body for Gurgaon schools has allowed them to continue with this practice.

Delhi govt raises upper age limit for EWS nursery admissions - Nursery Admission Delhi

The Delhi government raised the upper age limit for admission to entry-level classes under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Disadvantaged Group (DG) category, by an year.

The Delhi government on Wednesday raised the upper age limit for admission to entry-level classes under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Disadvantaged Group (DG) category, by an year.

The government had in 2015 fixed upper age limit for admissions to pre-school (nursery), pre-primary (KG) and class I as 4 years, 5 years and 6 years, respectively.

However, now the Directorate of Education (DoE) has raised it to 5 years, 6 years and 7 years, respectively and directed the schools to apply the new age limit for the admissions to 2017-18 academic session as well.

"The age for granting admission to the students at entry level classes for the academic year 2017- 18 under EWS/DG category already selected through draw of lots is raised up to one year," a communication sent to schools by DoE read.

"All the private schools are hereby directed to comply with the order accordingly and grant the admission to all such student selected under EWS/DG through computerised draw of lots in the school allotted to them by May 15," it added.

As the Delhi High Court had in 2016 ordered a stay on the earlier age limit, the government had not announced any upper age limit for the admissions under the two categories for this academic session.

"Since no upper age was fixed for the admission in entry level classes under the two categories, the children older than the minimum age for admission were also selected among these 31,269 children," the DoE communication said.

Delhi High Court had last week ordered the government to raise the upper age limit as an interim measure and proceed with the admissions.

A total of 1,13,991 students applied for the admission in the entry-level classes and 31,269 students got selected through computerised lots of draw.

Parent to Parent : Appeal to parents who got admission in more than one school

 Nursery Admissions Delhi 2017-18
-: Appeal from Delhi Parents:-

Fellow Delhi Parents
who got admission in more than one school

We are getting requests from many parents to request fellow parents to please submit the withdrawal application (follow the applicable withdrawal procedure) at school as soon as possible so that other parents and their kids can get the seat.

Although the "un-confirmed" seats would be released by the cut-off date in coming weeks but an early release would help other parents who did not get a single seat anywhere yet.

You have nothing to lose but your withdrawal at early stage would be timely help for all other parents.

If you have released, or wish to release any extra seats in any school, please do share the school name if possible (do NOT share child/parent details, or names please), so that others can see some ray of hope!

Nursery schools in Gurgaon costlier than IITs...

In what should rile parents of private school students in Gurgaon, it has been revealed by a survey conducted by a parents' forum in Delhi/NCR that on average, nursery schools charge more than the fee for an undergraduate course at IITs.

Conducted by Admission Nursery, the survey says a parent in Gurgaon pays an average of Rs 3 lakh a year for a year in the nursery class of a CBSE school. Most CBSE schools charge anything between Rs 2.8 lakh and Rs 3.7 lakh, whereas IITs charge a maximum of Rs 2 lakh per annum, along with overhead charges such as fees for accommodation, admission, campus management, etc., that does not exceed Rs 30,000.

One-time charges in schools — that are paid at the time of admission — are as high as Rs 1 lakh. Tuition fees for nursery classes range from Rs 80,000 to Rs 1.9 lakh per year. Most CBSE schools in Gurgaon charge admission fees, which are non-refundable, that are 20-50 times higher than Delhi schools.

"Schools in Delhi charge about Rs 500-1,500 as admission fees. In comparison, Gurgaon schools charge anything between Rs 30,000 and Rs 80,000, which is non-refundable. That means, if my child makes it to a better school, I will have to bear the loss. However, we have no option but to give in to the demands of private schools," said Nyra Gupta, a resident of Sector 45, who wants to get her daughter admitted in a good CBSE school in Gurgaon.

Sakshi Chopra, a parent from South City II, said, "Parents here are paying the price of lack of regulation by district authorities. There is no uniformity of charges sought by schools. I don't think there is anything exceptional in these schools. We're just paying the price of living in an expensive city."

In Delhi, no school is allowed to charge over Rs 25 for the admission form. In Gurgaon, schools charge a 4-digit fee for that. Moreover, it is not mandatory for parents in Delhi to buy a prospectus, while many schools in Gurgaon make it compulsory.

"Creamy Layer" gets it all - Gurgaon Nursery Admissions 2016-17

Parents of children seeking admission in nursery classes for the forthcoming academic session (2016-17) are unhappy about the point-based system that favours certain candidates who belong to the 'creamy layer'.  Certain schools award points to children of parents with enviable professional achievements, are civil servants, or have mentionable "achievement and contribution to society".

Salwan Public School in Sector 15 has allocated 10 extra points for parents who are civil servants, 15 for their "professional field" and 15 for "achievement and contribution to society by the parents".

The Shri Ram School has allocated 25 points to an essay under the head of "parents' response".  While the essay prompts themselves can be arbitrary, experts feel candidates can take external help to project themselves as desirable contenders and thus can be misleading. Besides, balancing a ward's educational future on subjective topics seems unjustified to them. Instead, giving score on the basis of proximity to school and or to those with siblings in the same school seem objective because they leave no grey areas.

Salwan Public School headmistress Savinder Rooprai said the preference to civil servants because they have transferable jobs and the school wanted to support them. "Moreover, the achievements of parents (that are scored) refer to their performance in school and college that should be known to us so that we know what environment the child has at home and accordingly, we can help them after they are admitted. We are not biased against any category of parents and try to admit a varied mix of parents," Rooprai said.

The director of The Shri Ram School Manika Sharma didn't respond to the TOI's repeated calls and messages.

Panel needed to regulate admissions in Gurgaon

There is a growing clamour for the formation of a district-level committee to streamline nursery admissions in the city, in the wake of irregularities in the admission calendar, refund policy and age criterion.

According to parents, nursery admissions in most private unaided schools in the city start in August, which puts a lot of pressure on them to get the child admitted to a school early. Besides, schools follow different policies for the refund of booking amount and many schools don't provide a break-up of the fee.

"The booking amount in most of the schools is as high as Rs 40,000. Also, parents don't get any break-up of the fee structure before March," said Sanjana Khurana, a resident of Sector 57 and a mother of a three-year-old boy.

"While many schools take the cut-off age as two and a half years in nursery, some have set the benchmark at three years," said Gaurav, another parent.

A district-level committee, comprising parents, officials from the district education office and private schools, was formed by the district administration for higher education a couple of months ago.

"Unlike Delhi, there is no regulatory body for nursery admissions. Forming a committee to set up certain guidelines for nursery admission is certainly a good idea," committee member Gauri Sarin said. Deputy commissioner T L Satyaprakash, however, expressed helplessness saying, "The government doesn't have any specific mandate for nursery admissions in private schools."

Nursery admissions for 2015-16 session in Delhi-NCR begins

The wait for the anxious parents is finally over as the much awaited nursery admission process has started in most of the private schools in Delhi-NCR. This year, there are many changes in the admission process. Following a series of court cases, the lieutenant governor was entrusted with deciding the admission guidelines. While his order dated December 18, 2013, was welcomed by parents, it dealt a big blow to schools.
It abolished the management quota and the "neighborhood factor" has been given priority. The order stated that only 5% staff quota will be allowed. In case the seats in the staff quota remained vacant, it would be open for other candidates. While 5% quota was reserved for girls in co-ed schools, 25% seats were reserved for students falling in the category of economically weaker section and disadvantaged groups.
This year, the education front has witnessed many faux-pas. It started with the scrapping of the four-year-undergrad program of Delhi University. On June 27, former vice-chancellor Dinesh Singh affirmed the move over the four-year degree course. There was another controversy which the university faced in May 2014 over the repetition of question paper for the fifth semester of financial management course under School of Open Leaning. This was followed by one more mistake of introducing out-of-syllabus questions, leading to cancellation of Hindi paper.
The LG's order enforced reservation of economically weaker section in minority institutions based on lease deed agreements and not the Right to Education Act. The minority schools also moved the court and got themselves exempted from the guidelines altogether. Also, one of the court cases filed by two school associations won them the autonomy to decide their own criteria and points distribution systems this year.

Delhi Update: Admissions Open in Several Schools - UPDATED!

Here starts the great Nursery Admissions Fair also known as "Nursery Admissions in Delhi"

Several schools have announced the admissions dates for October month for Nursery Admissions for session 2010-2011 and majority of these schools are from would want to get over this early on to avoid rush at later stage, as I had written in my previous article that give a positive angle to the admissions process that what some of the admissions experts have been trying to push in parents minds. Read that article here: "Admissions Starting Early? Do we really have a problem!?"

Some of the leading schools are:

Some more Delhi schools are about to announce their dates and we can hope to get a more comprehensive schedule of dates before Diwali time.

We have been publishing the consolidated admissions events on Nursery Admissions community for Parents, the one stop shop for all admissions related updates, so that you need not to "follow" some groups, posts or need not to go confusing sites to find right admissions information. It's clean and straight forward - just plain nursery admissions information and nothing else.

Schools have enough seats!

Yes, Delhi has enough seats to accommodate all nursery kids! I guess this is what our education minister said last year and I am sure they vouch the same even for this year as well, because they always count gverment schools also in their total available seats for te session.
According to the DOE, the problem is with the choice of parents, as eveyone wants their kid to go to one of that top schools only. Unless Govt is going to improving the infrastructure and quality of education in govt schools the problem with admissions will remain as is.

February 5, 2009

No seats? There is still some hope….

Your ward did not get seat anywhere? I know how frustrating this could be as I myself have lived thru it in 2007-2008 session. Many parents who thought that they would get a seat becaue fo their links, status, designation and had applied to top 3-5 schools only, are worst hit as they are now having minimum chances of getting to any school.
I have been suggesting this on many platforms (my blog, my articles in media, my handbook on Nursery Admission in Delhi, and also in interviews with Radio City…as well) that apply to as many school as you can as that would at least increase your chances. Anyways, the battle is not lost……!!
We observed last year that many schools has some HIDDEN-UNDISCLOSED seats and they filled them after the dust got settled, they started calling parents (probably picked randomly from the waitlidted candidates) and offered them seats (for no extra money! and not sure some schools amy have accpet money as well- who knows….. you know how all these things work benind the doors)
So this could be one hope for few parents and more-over, expect that some wards may have got admission in multiple schools and they are going to keep one seat only and will withdraw from other school and that would give way to some other lucky ward there….and by the way……trust me this worked for me and for few parents to whom i sugested this, if you know such lucky parents, offer them to accompany you when they are going to submit the withdrawal application, you can meet the admission officer and request them to enroll your kid for that NOW vacant seat.
Aprart from this, you can try getting in touch with admission officer yourself and seerequest them to call you if there is any vacant seat….

Nursery seats are for sale?

Last year many prominent schools “sold” few seats to various parents and names of these schools are well known to all Delhi parents….I guess….and rates were ranging from Rs. 1,00,000 to Rs. 5,00,000
I was just wondering if anyone of parents have heard any such thing this year as well.
Many have been throwing the names of Amity International, Modern School, Ryan International and also DPS but really no clear evidence have been produced and the reason could be that one who might have paid would not like to expose it as this might put their seat at risk in that school.
