How to get max points!?...Delhi Nursery Admission 2019-20

As per the Directorate of Education, Delhi Nursery Admissions for the academic year 2019-2020 schools have uploaded nursery admission criteria.

Parents would be allowed to check the point base criteria on the school website and apply on the website. Almost all the top schools in the city have listed neighborhood as the top criteria with a maximum number of points, with many schools giving 40-60 points for the proximity to the school. The second largest criteria seem to be a sibling in the school, which would help you with about 27 - 30 points.

The top criteria in the point based system include alumni, girl child, single parent. with own transport, two generation alumni apart from neighborhood and siblings. There are separate points if the child is eldest, second or third child. Also, if a child knows a 4th language and can read, write or speak, he or she would be granted additional points.

Some schools have extended their points system to include additional 5 - 10 points for children with special needs and disability. Some schools have even added points for children with disabled parents. Girl Child has also gotten an extra push with many schools awarding 5 to 10 points for the girl child.

All interested in applying for nursery admissions are informed that as per the High Court ruling, parents' habits, educational qualification and ethnicity cannot be considered as criteria.Minority institutions are allowed to add various criteria regarding parent's eating and drinking habits. Also note, all schools are required to conduct the allotment by means of a draw of lots which would be done in presence of the parents. The draw of lots is also mandated by DoE to be video graphed

Schools do NOT care about DOE orders! Read on!!

SchoolsWeLike.com was first to report the Delhi Nursery Admissions Dates and even projected accurately that the porints critria data will be delayed as it happened last year too. This proves that schools hardly care about DOE orders and take it lightly.

Last year even after one month into admissions process many schools did not upload the data and no one complained or bothered.

Latest DOE Order Dec 2017 - Simplified and Explained in 3 Steps!

DOE Order 19th Dec 2017 - Simplified and Explained in 3 Steps!

New DOE Delhi order dated 19th Dec 2017 issued for Nursery Admissions in Delhi for session 2018-2019 is the best in the recent past years, and here we have simplified this for you -

Step I) This new circular is applicable only for -
  • All families except Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Disadvantaged Group (DG) categories
  • Private, Unaided and Recognized Schools of Delhi, including Private Schools that ARE constructed on DDA land
  • Schools that are NOT run by government
Step II) In short -

  • GOOD NEWS! - This order is applicable for nearly all Private Schools of Delhi (almost)
  • MORE GOOD NEWS! - 55% seats are open for Aam Public :)
  • Point System -
    • All schools will have neighborhood/distance as main criteria (not in order but obvious)
    • Other key criteria that are expected to play major role are -
      • First born/girl child
      • Siblings
      • Alumni
      • Transfer/adoption cases
      • Special proficiency of parents
      • School transport
Step III) BAD news. Order has many loopholes!
  • 25% seats of reserved for EWS and DG categories (and admission for those seats will be handled by DOE itself), which is alright!
  • 20% seats can be blocked by schools under Management Quota! Aha, so 20% seats school management can fiddle with (ye public hai sab jaanti hai).

Nursery Admissions 2017-2018: Less Points? Name not in list? - Find the Answers Now!

Q. 1) We scored ‘55’ points in a school and the cut off points are ‘45’ (i.e. last kid on the list has 45 points), then why is my kid not on the list?

Possible reasons: 1) Your kid is 4+ years old and school has not considered your kid eligible for Nursery. (i.e. Pre-School) or given preference to 3+ yrs olds and vice versa, if your kid is 3+ yrs old and you have applied for Pri-Primary, the school will reject that, because as per DOE rules, the min. age for Pri-Primary is 4+ yrs as on 31st March.

Q. 2) What options we have if my kid can’t make it to any list ?
Suggestion: Tough question of the recent times let me go back to the poll results that we conducted recently (thanks to all who participated!), the numbers suggest that we all have applied at multiple schools but this doesn’t mean that anyone with just neighborhood points at hand can hope to get a seat as every seat has at least 30-40 applications and even 10th revised list wont bring the cutoff to that 20 points. See sample maths here that would give you some idea on how it might work or not work.

Kids with at least 40-50 points still have ‘some’ hope and can expect miracle in 1/10 applications.

Another agony that is being observed for kids that are 4+ yrs old (as on 31st Mar), and have applied for Nursery seat, have further less chances as schools don’t want to put 3 yrs with 4 yrs due to number of reasons.

Q. 3) Can I buy a seat (under management quota etc)?
There are schools and people who are ready to give you a seat for ‘money’, but they are not many. Some school has accepted (as reported by one of the parents) approx. Rs. 8-10 lakhs from few parents and given admissions last year. There are few other schools that are also ‘asking’ for donations (or at least talk about it) during interaction meetings.

I have come across people who claim that they can get you a seat in one of the highly ‘sought after’ south Delhi school for Rs. 2-3 lakhs under management quota.

If we talk about options after 1st Feb (the problem statement), probably there is some ray of hope from some private schools that are little better than ‘govt’ schools, but I don’t think many parents would even opt for that forget about sending kid to a govt. school.

For working parents who have offices in Gurgaon, Noida or surrounding areas, may plan to move out of Delhi and get their kids admitted there. Not an easy one, but little better than earlier one.

Then there are crazy suggestion floating around like (for 4+ yrs) – get your kid admitted to some good school in other state, pay one year fee there and put your kid in some average school here and next year when he/she will be 5+ yrs old, try for a better school here in 1st grade showing that you have got transferred to Delhi or something. Crazy isn’t it? But let me tell you – parents are serious on any and all options.

Can’t think of more as of now…this really needs a good brainstorming. If you come across any idea, please do share it. I am clearly not an expert in this area (admissions), but these views are coming from my recent good (and bad) experience, and thanks to all who keep sending their ideas, suggestions to me.

BREAKING!! Neighbourhood Criteria Scrapped for 298 Delhi Schools on Govt Land

HC judgment was due on 14th Feb is finally out and after a series of ups and downs on selection criteria for Nursery Admissions 2017-2018 session for 298 schools built on govt land in Delhi, finally HC has ruled that neighborhood criteria can not be FORCED onto these schools.

Delhi govt issued a notice that schools built on govt land must follow the special selection criteria, that mandated 75 seats to be filled with kids from neighborhood (i.e making distance as main criteria for selection. HC stayed the order mid of January, adding the chaos, and poor schools had started publishing their selection criteria and points breakup on DOE website, further leading to confusion.

In short -

  • Schools are free to setup their own selection criteria from the list of approved ones (that actually covers all that you can think of), but here is the favorite criteria that schools are expected to pick from,
  • While schools will continue to use distance as main criteria, expect the points to be dropped for distance and other standard criteria will get their place and slice
  • Schools will probably update the revised criteria and points on DOE site, but given that there is not much time left, so they may be updating it on their website, and at school notice boards. We shall try and update the database as soon as it is made available, here you can refer and search schools and their criteria and points as it stands today.

Good luck parents!

Schools gearing up to criteria and points, here is the inside story!

Schools gearing up to criteria and points and SWL brings you the "inside story"!

1400+ schools of Delhi are ready with their selection criteria and points, SchoolsWeLike.com brings you the inside story, wondering what the criteria is going to be, and how many points schools are going to assign to each one of them? Know them first and know them now.

I brought you story around DOE/Delhi Gov mistakes earlier in the day, and here our data team did a detailed study and survey and found that most of the schools are going to use these criteria and points for Nursery Admissions for 2017-2018 session:
  • Neighborhood - of course this is going to be there, and anyone can guess that. But note that schools are going to break it into slabs in terms of distance and most preferred slabs are going to be -
    • 0 km to 3 km (40-50 points)
    • 3 km to 5/6 km (20-30 points)
    • 6/7 km and above (under 10 points or less)
  • Sibling - Most of the schools are going to put this in their list and expect the points to be in the range of 20-30 points (in some cases schools would give extra points in case of two siblings in same school)
  • Alumni - Schools love to give advantage to parents that been alumni of same school. A typical 10-20 points to this one.
  • Staff - For all different reasons, schools prefer to give extra points to kids of staff members as this works for them as well, and teachers would stay with school if their kids also attend the same school. Nobody wants to lose good teachers. Expect 10 points to this criteria.
Other favorites are -
  • First Child/Girl Child/Single Parent - Schools have been giving points to these, and usually this would attract 10 points and this case really handy for many parents of course.
  • Transferable job - Schools prefer a fix number of kids that help them rotate the seats as they are promoted to senior classes, this helps them generate more revenue and profits (how? that's a long story for another day :D). Usually this attracts 10 points. Further if you are wondering if your job is considered a transferable job or not? Drop a message in comments with details of what sort of job you are in and I shall revert.
Good luck parents!
